Can I run Vector Algorithmics strategies on my local computer i...

Can I run Vector strategies on my local computer instead of a VPS?

It is not recommended. Technically it is "possible" — quotes intentional, because while the strategies can be installed and run on a personal machine, doing so is not part of the supported Vector setup and is strongly discouraged.

Why running locally is not the supported setup

The Vector team can only properly troubleshoot and maintain installations that live in the supported environment. On a personal computer, several issues commonly cause problems we cannot fully diagnose or fix from our side:

  • Latency. Personal internet connections are not built for low-latency order routing. Slower fills mean worse entries, missed exits, and higher slippage on every trade.
  • Time zone misalignment. A local machine running on a non-US time zone can cause strategies to fire at the wrong time, miss session windows, or roll over data incorrectly. (See: VPS Timezone article.)
  • Uptime gaps. Sleep mode, Windows Updates rebooting overnight, accidental shutdowns, and residential power outages all interrupt strategies mid-trade.
  • Network instability. Residential internet drops, Wi-Fi issues, or ISP-level outages can disconnect the strategy at exactly the wrong moment.
  • Inconsistent environment. Each personal machine has different OS settings, security software, and resource constraints. The Vector team cannot guarantee the same behavior across all client machines.

When something goes wrong on a local install, support is limited to general guidance — we cannot replicate or fix issues that are caused by the local environment itself.

What the supported setup looks like

For the best use of Vector strategies, clients run on one of two supported infrastructures:

  • VPS — QuantVPS or V2 Cloud. This is the standard for clients running prop firm accounts and/or cash accounts directly through NinjaTrader.
  • Collective2 — for hands-off cash clients who prefer to follow Vector signals through a copy-trading platform without managing their own VPS or NinjaTrader installation.

Both options run in stable, low-latency, always-on environments that the Vector team can fully support.
